A housing shortage for Key Workers is present in the Alpine Shire currently and is exacerbated over the spring/summer and autumn periods where there is a shortage of housing available for hospitality workers and agricultural workers, particularly throughout harvesting periods (eg hops harvesting and fruit picking). Alpine Shire is neighbour to the ski resorts of Mount Hotham and Falls Creek (approx. 1 hour travel time to either resort). Visitation to the resorts is much lower outside of the gazetted winter season, creating an availability of an abundance of accommodation on mountain off season.
The successful contractor is required to determine whether an opportunity exists to house key workers on mountain and whether provision of suitable transportation between the mountains and valley employers enables more accommodation options for key workers.
