Alpine Shire Council requests tenders from suitably qualified and experienced consultants, to develop a prospectus to promote opportunities for investment in community energy and/or public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure on Council land. The prospectus will promote investment in reliable and affordable energy supply to the Alpine community, thus enhancing the region’s energy resilience.
Communities within our region are located in vulnerable sections of the electricity distribution network, as both the Ovens and Kiewa valleys are serviced by a single power line. Recent bushfires and severe storms in other parts of Victoria have demonstrated that if these lines were to be damaged by extreme weather events our communities could be without power for weeks. These extreme weather events are predicted to be more extreme and frequent in the face of a changing climate. Further to this, climate change mitigation activities such as electrifying homes and cars to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will add more pressure to the electricity network.
Development of the prospectus will involve determining the most suitable locations for community energy and public EV charging, and investigating suitable models for community ownership, to provide maximum benefit to all communities within the Alpine Shire. Other energy resilience and EV charging projects are at varying stages of development across the region, and these must be considered in assessing suitable locations and developing the prospectus.
