The purpose of this Bushfire Management Assessment is to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of bushfire hazards, risks, and planning responses within Alpine Shire. The assessment aims to:
• Identify and understand the potential impacts of bushfires on buildings, infrastructure, and human life in the Alpine Shire region with a particular focus on growth and development areas outlined in the draft Land Development Strategy, 2023 (draft LDS).
• Assess the existing bushfire planning and building controls in place and recommend improvements if necessary or infrastructure upgrades that may provide improved outcomes.
• Evaluate the historical bushfire data, fire weather conditions, topographical features, and vegetation types within Alpine Shire.
• Determine the level of bushfire risk across the Shire with a specific focus on urban areas and provide a summary of the findings.
• Recommend appropriate design considerations, planning strategies, and bushfire protection measures to enhance the resilience of the township and its interface with surrounding areas.
• Provide Bushfire Management Assessment for the growth areas identified in the draft LDS against Clause 13.02-1S and relevant CFA guidelines.
• Work with CFA in the development and review of growth areas, as well as broader bushfire risk across Alpine Shire.
• Ensure alignment with relevant planning policies and strategies outlined by Alpine Shire Council.
• Inform preparation of the Rural Land Strategy – to be prepared concurrently.
