Tender Details
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this project is to determine the feasibility of using anti-stripping additives as an alternative to hydrated lime in asphalt mixes, and the status of hydrated lime supply in Australia and New Zealand.

SCOPE:
This project will undertake transport agency and industry consultation and an extensive international literature review to:
• assess the supply of hydrated lime and the risk of disruption to this supply.
• understand and document the effect of hydrated lime on asphalt performance.
• identify and critique specifications for accepted alternatives to hydrated lime and how these are assessed and specified.
• identify suitable methodologies for assessing and specifying anti-stripping additives as an alternative to hydrated lime.
• assess the advantages and disadvantages of using anti-stripping agents as an alternative to hydrated lime in terms of safety, asphalt performance, and any environmental/sustainability impacts.
• consider potential for secondary benefits such as use of anti-stripping additives to produce warm-mix asphalt.
• document the current anti-stripping additive technologies available in Australia and New Zealand including consultation with key industry stakeholders.
• provide technical guidance on methods to assess anti-stripping additives following an assessment of the feasibility of using these materials in asphalt mixes as an alternative to hydrated lime.

DELIVERABLES:
This project will produce the following final deliverables:
• Research report
• Webinar.
