The purpose of this project is to:
• provide evidence of the effectiveness of using locally available marginal and non-standard materials in place of materials to specified standard
• provide guidance on the assessment and appropriate use of these materials in road construction and maintenance to achieve cost-effective asset whole of life outcomes
• identify opportunities to amend material specifications to allow lower specification material to be used in stated circumstances
• identify further research required to confirm the selection, use and benefits of marginal materials.
