Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to complete the update to the existing Guide to Road Safety: Part 6 Road Safety Audit (2009), the aim of which is to provide guidance on current and harmonised road safety audit processes across Australia and New Zealand, to incorporate safe system principles and to consider alignment with the Safe System Assessment Framework and Safety in Design processes.
This research project is expected to produce the following deliverables:
1/ Consultation and a workshop held with road safety audit representatives from each jurisdiction to reach agreement on the key areas of difference among jurisdictions in the draft Guide. These include differences over the level of qualifications required by auditors, the types of audits conducted and the incorporation of Safe System principles into practice, and other issues.
2/ A completed updated Guide to Road Safety Part 6 Road Safety Audit that provides guidance on current and harmonised road safety audit processes across Australia and New Zealand, and considers the alignment between road safety auditing, the Safe System Assessment Framework and the Safety in Design processes.
3/ A brief report summarising the key updates to the 2009 Guide resulting from this project.
