Purpose:
The purpose of this research is to determine what features of the passing lanes and the environment into which these passing lanes are installed are associated with an increase in crashes and which features are associated with a decrease in crashes.

Deliverables:
This project is expected to produce the following deliverables:
1. A research report summarising the work undertaken, including recommended edits for the Guide to Traffic Management and the Guide to Road Design
2. A webinar describing the research, findings and implications for the design and installation of passing lanes
All recommendations provided by the selected Consultant as part of the project are required to be accompanied at a minimum by a high-level qualitative assessment of costs and efforts that would be incurred by the Austroads members for their implementation. Jurisdictions impact will be discussed and assessed collaboratively throughout the project between the Project manager, the Project Working Group and the selected Consultant.
All data / datasets captured and /or generated as part of the project form part of the project outputs that the selected Consultant is responsible to deliver to Austroads. Direction regarding the expected output format of the data / datasets will be sought by the Consultant during the project through the Austroads Project Manager.
