Tender Details
Purpose:

The purpose of this research is to provide clarity around the design and operation of Raised Safety Platforms, particularly in higher speed environments. The project will investigate:
• Safety performance and road user response,
• Noise and vibration issues,
• Large vehicle stability and design considerations,
• Impact on traffic flow and intersection capacity,
• Vehicle accelerations and occupant comfort levels,
• Constructability and construction considerations, and
• Best-practice ramp and platform design, signing and delineation.

Deliverables:

The outputs from this project will be:
1. Research Report including an international literature review, feedback from Road Authorities, intersection / operational modelling, guidance on geometric principles, and application / operational information to address various issues outlined above. Experiences from Australasian road authorities will also be drawn upon to provide a number of Case Studies.

2. Edits to Guide to Traffic Management

3. Dissemination Webinar

All recommendations provided by the selected Consultant as part of the project are required to be accompanied at a minimum by a high-level qualitative assessment of costs and efforts that would be incurred by the Austroads members for their implementation. Jurisdictions impact will be discussed and assessed collaboratively throughout the project between the Project manager, the Project Working Group and the selected Consultant.

All data / datasets captured and /or generated as part of the project form part of the project outputs that the selected Consultant is responsible to deliver to Austroads. Direction regarding the expected output format of the data / datasets will be sought by the Consultant during the project through the Austroads Project Manager.

- Instructions for Authors of Austroads Publications which sets out the writing and formatting standards for research, technical and internal reports.
