PURPOSE:
The purpose of this project is to support Austroads members in their environmental and sustainability reporting, including specification and assessment of performance, and a consistent set of national and trans-Tasman metrics and sources of data to measure this performance.

SCOPE:
The scope of this project is to:
• To review and report on current Austroads members’ Environmental and Sustainability Reporting practices and obligations, including a review of the different KPIs, targets/criteria, terminology, and reporting periods currently in use by agencies and other organisations, both nationally and internationally
• To provide recommendations on the appropriate metrics, criteria, terminology, and reporting periods to use to measure Environmental and Sustainability performance across the transport sector, inclusive of public transport.
• To provide advice on how best to source the data for, or measure, each metric, including the identification of barriers to sourcing this data and recommendations to overcome them.
• To identify the existence (or lack thereof) of other industry standards or guidelines for Environmental and Sustainability reporting, and the extent to which each is in use across Australia and New Zealand by Austroads members specifically, and by other Government and industry organisations more generally.
• To conduct a gap analysis of Austroads members’ needs and scope for Environmental and Sustainability Reporting versus the existing Austroads Guidelines for Environmental Reporting, and provide guidance on if it should be updated or retired.
It is anticipated that this project will have linkages with other Government projects, initiatives and policies, including other existing Austroads guidelines. It is expected that the consultant will identify and analyse, as deemed necessary to satisfy the project scope and objectives, these additional standards, guidelines and policies in the context of Environmental and Sustainability Reporting across Australian and New Zealand.
