Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to facilitate a widespread use of concrete with lower cement content.
Scope:
The scope of the project includes:
• Identifying the roadblocks in moving to lower cement content concrete in the transport infrastructure sector, and in particular the precast concrete sector.
• Determining the readily short-term achievable emissions intensity benchmarks, while still meeting the durability and strength requirements of transport infrastructure design and construction; establish the cost penalty (if any) that would apply in adoption of such benchmarks.
• Determining what can be achieved long-term in overcoming these roadblocks, while still meeting the durability and strength requirements of transport infrastructure design and construction; establish what is the dollar cost penalty (if any) that would apply in adoption of such benchmarks.
• Establishing a roadmap to move the transport infrastructure design and construction sector onto a more sustainable setting with regard to lower embodied carbon in concrete, involving the widespread use of concrete with lower cement contents.
• Identifying improvements in concrete specifications and Australian Standards or the use in transport infrastructure design and construction that will facilitate use of lower cement content concretes. Recommended improvements to specifications should:
o respond to identified roadblocks,
o draw on examples of good practice,
o consider the relative maturity / capacity of the supply chain to meet recommended requirements, noting that it may be necessary to implement different benchmarks / requirements for smaller regional projects.
Deliverables:
This project will produce the following final deliverables:
• Research report
• Webinar
• Project data with populated metadata spreadsheet.
Also included as part of this tender are the following documents:
• Writing & Format Requirements for Austroads Publications which sets out the writing and formatting standards for research, technical and internal reports.
• Master Services Agreement outlining our Terms and Conditions. Please note that our Terms and Conditions are not negotiable.
All submissions are to be submitted as a PDF at a maximum size of 10MB.
All submissions are to include a completed Tender Proposal Coversheet.
The naming convention for submissions is: [your Company name] – [Project No.] – [any internal reference numbers].
