Tender Details
Purpose:

Austroads seeks responses from appropriately experienced service providers to develop a new Austroads laboratory testing protocol which can be used in the assessment of Australian and New Zealand asphalt mixes containing liquid anti-stripping additives.
Scope:

A new Austroads laboratory testing protocol will provide a mechanism for the assessment of the effectiveness of different liquid anti-stripping additives when used in both Australian and New Zealand asphalt mixes containing a variety of different aggregate types.

The project will build on the following previous Austroads project APT6048 Feasibility of Using Anti-stripping Additives as an Alternative to Hydrated Lime. This project developed an interim laboratory assessment protocol to assess the appropriateness of using liquid anti-stripping additives using a suite of asphalt mix characterisation, standard materials testing and moisture susceptibility tests. While the interim protocol developed provides a mechanism that could be used to assess the effectiveness of different anti-stripping additives in the laboratory, it was based solely on a desktop review and further practical consideration and validation of the use of the protocol locally is needed prior to implementation.

The project will involve two stages:
• Stage 1 – Investigate the effects of the selection of different specimen preparation and testing options on improving the ability to better distinguish between the moisture susceptibility of different asphalt mixes in the laboratory (Austroads APT6048 Feasibility of Using Anti-stripping Additives as an Alternative to Hydrated Lime). The investigation must also cover the effects (of these options) on the ability to improve reproducibility and the robustness of the link between laboratory test results and field performance.
• Stage 2 – Develop a new Austroads laboratory testing protocol, research report and an update to the Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology Part 4B: Asphalt (AGPT04B). The research report to include any recommendations for changes to relevant Austroads and Australian Standards test methods.

This project will produce the following final deliverables:
• Austroads Laboratory testing protocol for specifying the use of liquid anti-stripping additives in asphalt mixes
• Research report
• Updated edition of Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology Part 4B: Aphalt
• Webinar
• Project data with populated metadata spreadsheet.

Also included as part of this tender are the following documents:
• Writing & Format Requirements for Austroads Publications which sets out the writing and formatting standards for research, technical and internal reports.
• Master Services Agreement outlining our Terms and Conditions. Please note that our Terms and Conditions are not negotiable.

All submissions are to be submitted as a PDF at a maximum size of 10MB.

All submissions are to include a completed Tender Proposal Coversheet.

The naming convention for submissions is: [your Company name] – [Project No.] – [any internal reference numbers].
