Purpose:
This project will assist Austroads and road agencies better understand and prepare for the potential impacts of "Digital Disruption" to their business that can result from emerging technologies and the ensuing societal changes they can enable. It will provide a consolidated landscape of current Australasian initiatives associated with digital disruption that relate to Austroads projects. It will also establish an easy way to access the key learnings from Austroads reports that are related to this digital disruption.
Deliverables:
A report that consolidates and contextualises Australasian initiatives and Austroads learnings (linking toresearch reports) related to digital disruption.
•An infographic (PDF) that provides a simple overview to the findings.
•A webpage (similar to the infographic) that provides a hyper-linked portal to the findings.
•A short (3-4 minute) web video to engage staff (or all levels) within road agencies outlining theopportunities through "Digital Disruption" as seen from a road agency perspective.
•A short (3-4 minute) web video to engage with industry partners outlining the opportunities through"Digital Disruption" as seen from a road agency perspective.
NTM6024
Purpose:
As technology is rapidly improving it not only presents many opportunities for the arterial road network to be managed differently to current practice but these technologies may also influence how the arterial road network is managed into the future. A specific example of such technologies is autonomous vehicle technology.
This project aims to develop new or revised content for the Austroads Guide to Traffic Management (AGTM) and Guide to Smart Motorways (AGSM), to assist jurisdiction practitioners with guidance about emerging technologies that may assist with improving traffic management areas such as incident management, traffic signal operation, congestion management, and network operations by improving awareness of such technologies and the pro’s and con’s associated with implementing such technologies.
Deliverables:
Develop new or revised content for the AGTM and AGSM where appropriate to strengthen the guidance relating to emerging technologies that may assist with improving traffic management areas such as incident management, traffic signal operation, congestion management, and network operations.
The guidance could include how the technology works, what problems it aims to address, what infrastructure is required to support the technology, what level of resources/expertise would be required to manage it, etc
