PURPOSE:
The purpose of this project is to form best practice guidance for the design, delivery and testing of
in-tunnel aesthetic design features to improve tunnel safety and the customer experience. The project will review recent projects and current practices relating to driver behaviour in tunnels, and the design, delivery and testing of in-tunnel aesthetic design features.
SCOPE:
The project will establish best practice in design, delivery and testing of in-tunnel aesthetic design features by drawing on the learnings and conclusions from recent relevant projects in Australia and New Zealand including but not limited to:
1. Design and delivery of in-tunnel design features at the NorthConnex, West Gate, WestConnex, and M6 Stage 1 tunnels.
2. Perceptual countermeasure treatment trials at the Burnley tunnel.
