PURPOSE:
The purpose of this project is to identify best practice for road tunnel wall panels and finishes to ensure the product will achieve performance, access, maintenance and durability requirements.

SCOPE:
The scope of the project is to identify best practice in road tunnel wall panels by:
• Researching and reporting on the finishes and products for road tunnel wall panels that are currently available and in use.
• Detailing possible materials that can be adopted to achieve good performance throughout the life expectancy of the product.
• Reviewing existing standards and specifications.
Best practice for road tunnel wall panels and finishes should provide value to tunnel operators over the life cycle of the assets, facilitate the ease of maintenance access for regular inspections, and meet durability requirements.
The project will develop a specification framework on design, installation, and performance and testing requirements for wall panels, wall finishes, and associated products including wall panel supports. The framework to cover the cladding type options that can be adopted by designers and contractors to:
• Minimise the cost of future inspections.
• Increase the ease of how future inspections are carried out.
• Inspect structures without the use of major plant to remove and replace cladding.
• Provide an acceptable architectural finish.
• Facilitate ease of replacement where replacement may be necessary, and identify any potential defects and proactive action.
• Provide a list of cladding materials that would meet specified design life and performance requirements.
• Detail a connection system that may be adopted to facilitate ease of inspections.

DELIVERABLES:
This project will produce the following final deliverables:
• Technical report detailing the findings of the current use of road tunnel wall panels, finishes, panel types, and advantages and disadvantages of options. The report to include a specification framework for the design, installation, maintenance and testing of road tunnel panels and finishes.
• A webinar.
