Austroads is seeking a suitably qualified provider to develop a suite of high quality 3D computer-generated imagery (CGI) video clips that will be used in the training and assessment of heavy vehicle drivers.
This Austroads project provides a critical component of an extensive program of work that involves the review and revision of the National Heavy Vehicle Driver Competency Framework (NHVDCF) approved by Australian Transport Ministers in 2011.
In 2016 Transport Ministers asked Austroads to undertake a review of the Framework. The final stage of this program of work seeks to harmonise national standards of training and assessment, developing specific, implementable changes in policy frameworks and practice. Specifically, this involves delivering an enhanced national training and assessment framework to improve heavy vehicle driver safety and competence and designing, developing and delivering a suite of evidence-based assessment standards and materials.
A separate, current Austroads project SRL6259, National Heavy Vehicle Competency Framework Review Stage 3, has identified hazard perception testing (HPT) of heavy vehicle driving licence applicants as a crucial method of achieving safety improvements.
This project, SRL6340 Heavy Vehicle Hazard Perception Test (HV HPT) – Part 2 HPT Clip Development, delivers a number of video clips for hazard perception tests that will form a part of the driver licensing process.
This project runs in parallel with SRL6340 Heavy Vehicle Hazard Perception Test (HV HPT) – Part 1 Scoping and Testing, and will see two providers working in partnership with Austroads to deliver various elements of work to ensure the HPT product is integrated into the broader learning outcomes framework of the NHVDCF. The HPT clips must meet or exceed the same standard of validity and reliability as all other Austroads HPT products. Ultimately it must contribute to the preparation of safe and competent heavy vehicle drivers. See the following links for sample HPT videos.
