Tender Details
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the project is to optimise freight access and productivity consistent with the safe management of bridges.
The aim of the project is to provide guidance to asset owners for assessing the structural capacity of road bridges to carry heavy vehicular loads to maximise safe access for these vehicles.
The project will recognise the differences in design and assessment philosophies and how to reduce conservatism in assessments without compromising safety.

SCOPE:
The project will develop detailed guidance for structural capacity assessments of existing bridges for different structural forms and materials, which provides the supporting technical detail for the application of the higher-level requirements in AS 5100: Bridge Design: Part 7: Bridge Assessment (AS 5100.7). The scope of the project is focused on road bridges in Australia and New Zealand.
This project, Stage 1, will conduct a literature review, develop an Interim Guideline for transport agencies, and identify gaps in knowledge and procedures to propose and scope the work for Stage 2. The gaps that require further investigation for Stage 2 are to be defined and ranked by prioritisation in the Interim Guidelines.

DELIVERABLES:
Stage 1 will produce the following final deliverables:
• Interim Guideline (Internal Report for agencies)
• Webinar on the Interim Guideline
• Documentation of the scope for Stage 2.

Also included as part of this tender are the following documents:
• Instructions for Authors of Austroads Publications which sets out the writing and formatting standards for research, technical and internal reports.
