The purpose of this project is to identify the key properties of solvents (i.e. cutter oils) which are added to hot binders to enhance aggregate wetting characteristics and initial aggregate re-orientation during the construction and early life of sprayed seals. This information will provide input into the update to Australian Standard AS3568 ‘Oils for reducing the viscosity of residual bitumen for pavements’ which is used by jurisdictions to specify the properties of cutter oils and related Austroads publications.
