Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to produce an evidence based report that provides the strategic guidance and tangible actions that are achievable and measurable, and which are needed to target effort across Australasia to reduce road trauma on regional and remote roads.
Deliverables:
This project will be undertaken in a phased approach. Phase 1 will result in delivery of a report by 24 December 2018. This will bring together contemporary research in this space which includes:
• A literature review of current road safety issues, research which can be applied, and learning for each jurisdiction and nationally;
• Analysis of the causes and risk associated to regional and remote crashes;
• Identification of high level categories through which jurisdictions can improve current effort in this space
• Identification of any more detailed or targeted research to support jurisdictional action
• A workshop with stakeholder agencies on the research to date (November 2018); and
• Delivery of the draft report (including proposed updates to the Guide to Road Safety (GRS) by December 2018.
• Deliver a Final Report which will include an Update to the GRS.
Subsequent stages will involve jurisdictional consideration and possible implementation of actions and possible further and targeted research by Austroads.
