PURPOSE:
The purpose of this project is to identify contemporary guidance on median treatments that contribute to safe system outcomes. The project is to identify a suite of graduated options including lower scale solutions that still achieve safety gains at lower costs.
The intent is to support road design practitioners to make informed and consistent decisions when designing median treatments, weighing their respective risks and benefits.
SCOPE:
The scope of this project is to undertake a broad review of existing national and international literature on safe system median treatments to:
• Reconfirm a vision of zero deaths and serious injuries, by appropriately considering the risk of head-on crashes and identifying all mitigating options through extended and normal design domains.
• Identify suitable safe system median treatments and how each option contributes to FSIs saved
• Make recommendations to update the Guide to Road Design (AGRD) to reflect the most contemporary knowledge and practice from around the world regarding safe system median treatments.
• Establish warrants for consideration of various safe system median treatments
• If appropriate, develop tools to support road design practitioners to make informed and consistent decisions.
• Provide some guidance for staging interventions to achieve a safe system solution over time.
DELIVERABLES:
This project will produce the following deliverables:
• Austroads Research Report detailing the key steps, considerations and recommendations being made, including:
- Identification and discussion of existing national and international literature
- Identification and discussion of case studies of existing Australasian sites
- Development of warrants for graduated treatment options through both the normal and extended design domains
- Recommendations for revision to AGRD including Guide-ready content
- If applicable, tools for road design practitioners
• User focused webinar or other dissemination materials as required.
Also included as part of this tender are the following documents:
• Instructions for Authors of Austroads Publications which sets out the writing and formatting standards for research, technical and internal reports.
• Master Services Agreement outlining our Terms and Conditions. Please note that our Terms and Conditions are not negotiable.
All submissions are to be submitted as a PDF at a maximum size of 10MB.
All submissions are to include a completed Tender Proposal Coversheet.
The naming convention for submissions is: [your Company name] – [Project No.] – [any internal reference numbers].
All submissions are to include a statement as to how the respondent proposes to undertake the work, and keep to the agreed deadlines, given the current and proposed requirements and restrictions due to COVID-19.
