Individual Trade Consultant (Aid for Trade and Trade Policy) – Geneva
The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) is inviting applications for an English-speaking Trade Consultant (Aid for Trade & Trade Policy) to be based at the Permanent Delegation of the Pacific Islands Forum to the United Nations, World Trade Organisation (WTO) and Other International Organisations in Geneva or the PIFS Geneva Office.
The main functions of the PIFS Geneva Office are to provide policy and technical advice on multilateral trade issues to Pacific WTO Members, co-ordinate aid for trade (AfT) initiatives and represent the trade interests of the Forum island Countries to the trade-related organisations as well as represent their non-trade interests to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva.
The Consultant will be responsible mainly for coordinating the AfT work of the Office, contribute to the work on multilateral trade policy and negotiations and co-ordinate develop co-operation assistance to the Forum island Countries.
The qualification and experience requirements for the position are:
a) an advanced University degree from a recognised university in International Trade, Economics, Development Co-operation or Governance.
b) at least eight years’ relevant work experience on development co-operation, international trade and Aid for Trade, and project management is required.
c) at least 4 years’ work experience in the Pacific region and/or in the context of small island developing states.
d) Good spoken and written English.
The Trade Consultant’s contract may be for a term of up to three years – renewable on an annual basis and subject to funding. Appointment is subject to eligibility to work in Switzerland. No relocation costs will be provided with this position.
