REQUEST FOR TENDER
(Open tender based on defined and specific statement of requirements)
Peer review of the Regional KAVA Development Strategy
Background
Kava contributes to Pacific trade and is of strategic significance for the sustainable development of the region, as well as being one of the drivers of economic growth and poverty alleviation in the Pacific communities.
In 2021, Forum Trade Ministers in their meeting reaffirmed the cultural significance of kava in the Pacific and its economies and recognised the growing demands and niche opportunities of kava. Ministers discussed the value of robust strategy and policy to capture the opportunities in value addition, investment, consumer information, sustainable production, support to farmers and private sector capacity building.
Forum Trade Ministers supported the proposed development of the Kava Development Strategy and directed the Secretariat to undertake regional inclusive consultation for the development of the KAVA strategy.
National consultations were carried out virtually with the seven (7) Kava producing countries (i.e Fiji, Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu) with the aim of giving ownership to the people and strengthening the first ever Regional KAVA Strategy.
