REQUEST FOR TENDER
Consultant to undertake a preliminary independent review of existing studies and conclusions regarding the scientific assessment of nuclear contamination in the Pacific, including in the nuclear test site at Runit.
Background
The significance of the potential threat of nuclear contamination to the health and security of the Blue Pacific, its peoples and prospects, has always been a concern of Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders.
At their 52nd Meeting, convened from 6 to 10 November 2023, in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, Forum Leaders again ‘expressed ongoing concern regarding outstanding nuclear testing legacy issues’.
Leaders in recent years, have also noted ‘the arrangements for a Preliminary Independent Review relating to Nuclear Contamination Issues in the Pacific, including nuclear Test Site at Runit Dome Island of the Republic of Marshall Islands.’
Objective
The objective of this consultancy is to undertake a preliminary independent review of existing studies and conclusions regarding the state of nuclear contamination in the Pacific, including in the Runit nuclear waste site in the Republic of the Marshall Islands and other islands and atolls where tests have been conducted, including Kiribati and French Polynesia.
Information
Only applicants who meet the following criteria are eligible to take part in tenders issued by the Secretariat:
• Are financially solvent and able to conduct business operations in a professional and successful manner;
• Are not involved in any court proceedings which may affect their ability to conduct business or deliver the services tendered; and
• Do not appear on the World Bank’s listing of ineligible firms.
