Encompassing work to complete the design for Wheelers Bridge on the Creswick-Lawrence Road, Lawrence. The project includes consideration of the design heritage and constructability issues.
Wheelers Bridge has two spans of 22.9 meters clear over Birch Creek on the Creswick-Lawerence Road, Lawrence. The bridge is approximately 13km north of Creswick and 6km West of Smeaton. The bridge is listed by the National Trust.
Wheelers Bridge was completed in March 1900 by Monash and Anderson. It was only the third bridge in Victoria using the early 'Monier' system of reinforced concrete.
Since its construction, the bridge has shown signs of distress particularly to the spandrel walls. The upper portion of the bridge continues to be in a poor state of repair, it has a 15-tonne load limit and is reduced to a single lane.
