Hepburn Shire Council is seeking a suitably qualified consultancy (or team of consultants) to undertake the Clunes Active Open Space and Clunes Recreation Reserve Netball Clubrooms Master Planning Project to develop three (3) of Clunes significant active open spaces and a concept design and cost plan for the Clunes Recreation Reserve netball clubrooms refurbishment.
Clunes is a charming town with a rich gold rush history and a vibrant arts and events culture. Clunes is located on the lands of the Jaara people of the Dja Dja Wurrung, who are the Traditional Owners.
Bull Milgate (Clunes Recreation) Reserve, Clunes
The Bull Milgate (Clunes Recreation) Reserve currently houses several different facilities on it’s Ligar Street site. These include a leisure centre, seasonal outdoor swimming pool, AFL/Cricket oval, netball facility, scoreboard and public toilets.
Queens Park, Clunes
Queen's Park is located on Ligar Street, just to the east of the town center, on the other side of Creswick Creek. The exact age of the park is unknown, but trees were being planted there in the mid-1870s. Originally it ran the whole length of Ligar St, but in 1878 the Clunes Bowling Club was set up in the middle of the park and later formally excised from it. The remaining park was divided into two sections: a formal pleasure gardens of flower beds, trees and a fountain to the north of the bowling club; and a pinetum to the south, where there was also a wooden platform for entertainments.” (Extract from Clunes Museum website)
Community Park, Clunes
The Clunes Community Park is located on Bailey Street. This site has a lot of potential and interest from different parts of the community. It currently houses an aged but well used skate park and also a public art piece, Lunaris, which was commission by Hepburn Shire Council from artist Joanne Mott.
The Clunes Active Open Spaces and Clunes Recreation Reserve Netball Clubrooms Refurbishment Project will allowing an opportunity for holistic planning for the Clunes community by developing Master Plans for three significant sites with varied community assets at once. This approach also encourages consideration for connective track and trails between sites, in particular the Clunes Creek Walk.
