Request for Proposal: Preparing for and mitigating disasters in the urban environment through intelligent green space design and engineering
Horticulture Innovation Australia (Hort Innovation) is a not-for-profit, grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s $15.1 billion horticulture industry. Hort Innovation invests around $120 million in research and development (R&D) and marketing programs annually to provide benefit to industry and the wider community.
Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and capable delivery partner/s to express interest in projects related to: Preparing for and mitigating disasters in the urban environment through intelligent green space design and engineering (GC22002).
Natural disasters have long impacted on urban environments. As the human population (in Australia and globally) continues to grow, so too does the area of urban land. The removal of green spaces, trees and plants are often touted as key actions that have driven the increase in the severity of these events. Recently there have been increasing incidence of disasters impacting on urban environments – particularly floods, heatwaves, and wildfires.
One or more responses to this expression of interest may be selected to explore the potential to prepare for and mitigate the impact of natural disasters on urban environments through the effective use of green space design.
This program may include:
• An investigation into the existing theory on this topic
• Develop action plans, tools, and recommendations to inform green space planning and implementation for improved disaster preparation and reduced severity
• Increase the use of green spaces in disaster mitigation and drive the policy change process through the generation of evidence to back policy change
• Conduct research to understand best practice green infrastructure for natural disaster preparedness and mitigation
• Other activities and deliverables that address the Green Cities fund Outcome 2 as described in section 3.1 of this EOI.
An idea submission may respond to one or more of the above points, or present ideas related to this work but not listed here and be transformational, new research, including new data and insights. Following evaluation of the submission a program or related projects will be established.
Hort Innovation has prepared an Expression of Interest (EOI) document that provides background information, outlines the scope of services, the procurement process and the information required from interested parties.
The EOI may be downloaded from www.tenders.net (you will need to be a member of tenders.net to access this information).
The closing date for responses is 10 February 2023, 3.00 pm (AEDT).
