Request for Proposal: PW22000 Pest management for the Australian sweet potato industry
Horticulture Innovation Australia (Hort Innovation) is a not-for-profit, grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s $14.4 billion horticulture industry. Hort Innovation invests around $110 million in research and development (R&D) and marketing programs annually to provide benefit to industry and the wider community.
Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and capable delivery partner for the project: Pest management for the Australian sweet potato industry (PW22000).
The main objective of this project is to improve management of nematodes and viruses in sweetpotatoes through:
Nematode objectives:
• Undertaking field samples of commercial sweetpotato farms. Sampling should cover broad range of growing conditions, varieties, and crop densities.
• Conducting race characterisation indicating race prevalence across various cropping region and environmental conditions.
• Completing sequence comparison between previously and newly identified nematodes.
• Benchmarking varietal susceptibility ranking against previously and newly identified nematodes.
• Screening a range of cover crops to identify suitable break crops to reduce the impact of nematodes on sweet potato.
Virus objectives:
• Establishing a formal single point of contact for sweet potato diagnostic issues related to viruses and nematodes.
• Improving the accuracy and detection capability of the existing vial diagnostic tools.
• Developing high throughput capacity for diagnostics of sweetpotato viral diseases.
• Demonstrating field deployment of sweetpotato viral diseases diagnostic tools.
• Reporting on high-risk biosecurity viruses.
Hort Innovation has prepared a Request for Proposal (RFP) document that provides background information, outlines the scope of services, the procurement process and the information required from interested parties.
