Horticulture Innovation Australia (Hort Innovation) is a not-for-profit, grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s $16.3 billion horticulture industry. Hort Innovation invests around $154 million in research and development (R&D) and marketing programs annually to provide benefit to industry and the wider community.
Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and capable delivery partner for the project: Emerging Technologies for Wildlife Deterrence (AS24007).
The objectives of the services being sought are to:
1. Evaluate and enhance wildlife deterrent technologies
Assess the effectiveness of emerging solutions such as drones, lasers and AI-based monitoring in detecting and deterring wildlife from berries, mangoes, summerfruit and apple crops. This includes refining existing technologies and potentially developing new, fit-for-purpose tools.
2. Develop best-practice guidelines for industry use
Create a comprehensive set of recommendations that integrates the most effective wildlife deterrent strategies and technologies, ensuring they are practical, scalable and fully compliant with existing wildlife protection regulations and animal ethics requirements.
3. Establish a clear pathway to commercial application
Define how research outcomes will be translated into commercially viable solutions, outlining practical steps for industry adoption, scalability, and long-term impact across the horticulture sector.
