Request for Proposal: National Persimmon Varietal Improvement Program 2017-20 (PR16002)
Hort Innovation is a not-for-profit, grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s $9 billion horticulture industry. Hort Innovation invests around $100 million in research and development (R&D) and marketing programs annually to provide benefit to industry and the wider community.
Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and capable delivery partner for the project: National Persimmon Varietal Improvement Program 2017-20 (PR16002).
The objectives of the services being sought are to deliver a National Persimmon Varietal Improvement Program that will:
• Quantify the performance of recently available new Persimmon varieties (non-astringent and astringent) and suitability within the Australian industry.
• Negotiate access to new varieties from overseas breeding programs, both non-astringent and astringent with potential for the Australian industry.
• Develop the potential of Rojo Brillante including performance in regional environments and application of CO2 de-astringency.
• Improve tree uniformity and performance such as controlled vigour, size with new standard clonal propagation technique for persimmon rootstocks to replace current practices of seed propagation.
