Tender Details
Hort Innovation is a not-for-profit, grower-owned Research and Development Corporation (RDC) for Australia’s $9 billion horticulture industry. Hort Innovation invests around $100 million in research and development (R&D) and marketing programs annually to provide benefit to industry and the wider community.

Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and capable delivery partner for the project: Development of new nutrient-dense, value-added fruit and vegetable products (HN 17000).

The objective of this research is to define market opportunities in target segments and formulate new concept products which contain high levels of fruit and vegetables per serve, to meet the health and nutritional needs of those segments.

The project will involve a staged approach:
Stage 1:
Undertake consumer research to define opportunities in the Australian market, in target demographic segments (e.g. children, middle aged, elderly etc.) and their nutritional requirements, to guide the selection of concept products. Analyse the results of the research and present a Business Case to undertake Stage 2 of the project.
Stage 2:
• A broad literature review on research undertaken locally and internationally in this space
• Development of new formulations and processes for value added, nutrient dense fruit and vegetable products for target segments identified in Stage 1
• Application of processing technologies to obtain safe and nutritious fruit and vegetable products whilst optimising nutrient preservation throughout shelf life
• Validation of selected nutritional and health benefits of the new concept products using limited human trials and identification of permitted health claims that could be made on the new concept products.

Discussion and engagement with commercial partners early on in the process will be an important component of the research.

Hort Innovation has prepared a Request for Proposal (RFP) document that provides background information, outlines the scope of services, the procurement process and the information required from interested parties.
