Tender Details
Assessment if Rooftop Solar PV Systems on Electricity Grid Infrastructure in Tuvalu
Tuvalu submitted their updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the UNFCCC Secretariat on 16th November 2022. Tuvalu is committed to an absolute electricity sector emissions reduction target off 100%, an increased energy efficiency target of 30% and the development of a zero-carbon pathway by 2030. Tuvalu, as part of the projects implemented to reach its NDC targets, has recently completed the installation in 2023 of a floating solar photovoltaic (FSPV) system on Tafua Pond in Funafuti. The project is expected to reduce Tuvalu’s reliance energy generation from fossil fuel sources. In addition, a grid connected solar PV rooftop system with a 2 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system was commissioned in 2024 by the Asian Development Bank (ADB)[2]. These projects showcase Tuvalu’s ambition towards achieving its NDC targets. This project strengthens Tuvalu’s commitment to the Paris Agreement by supporting its NDC ambitions to reduce its overall emissions with an aim to integrate rooftop solar PV systems to its electricity grid in the future. The project will also support Tuvalu to transition to a zero-carbon pathway as outlined in its NDC.
