The "Enhancing Water-Food Security and Climate Resilience in Volcanic Island Countries of the Pacific" project, executed by the Pacific Community (SPC) in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and funded by the Global Environment Fund (GEF), aims to improve water and food security, climate resilience, and ecosystem services in Fiji, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. The project focuses on expanding and assessing groundwater resources, introducing sound groundwater governance frameworks, addressing critical areas, and reinforcing institutional capacity.
In Gizo, Solomon Islands, where the water supply system is non-functional, SPC, in collaboration with Solomon Water and the Water Resources Division (WRD) of the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification (MMERE), has identified potential drilling targets to improve water availability. SPC is seeking technical support and training to strengthen national drilling capacity during the borehole drilling process.
