Council seeking members for Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee
Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to become independent members of its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.
“The individuals we are looking for need to have a strong financial management or audit background, as well as an understanding of accounting and auditing standards in a public sector environment,” Risk and Safety Coordinator, Wayne van der Westhuysen said.
“The committee meets four times a year and oversees and monitors the effectiveness of Council in carrying out its obligations for responsible financial management, good corporate governance, maintaining an effective system of internal control, risk management and fostering an ethical environment.
“Other desirable skills for this position include legal, governance, risk management, technology, business management or project management skills.”
When assessing the expressions of interest, Council will consider the following:
• Relevant professional qualifications
• Relevant professional knowledge and expertise
• Understanding of the public sector or local government
• Understanding the role of corporate governance in organisations
• Current or prior experience on similar committees in the local government sector.
