2025_31 - MICC Soldiers Hill PCN Construction
Mount Isa City Council invites tenders from suitably qualified tenderers for the provision of shared path construction as described in more detail in Part 5 – Scope.
As part of Mount Isa City Council’s (MICC) continual delivery of Principal Cycle Network (PCN) projects to encourage physical exercise, improve safety for cycling and enhance active transport connectivity across the suburbs of Soldiers Hill and Miles End, the Soldiers Hill PCN (SHPCN) is a crucial component of the greater Mount Isa West PCN under development.
The alignment of the Soldiers Hill PCN is designed to draw cyclists away from Barkly Highway (by exiting at Milne Bar Road or Sulphide Street) and instead use the revitalised Tharrapatha Way as main north-south axis between Soldiers Hill and Mount Isa City. The Tharrapatha Way itself is one of the city’s most beloved pieces of public infrastructure, as its scenic riverside location is generally a popular choice for physical exercise.
The total alignment is approximately 3343m in length.
The construction scope of this project will implement significant safety improvements for pedestrians and cyclists. The existing Tharrapatha Way is to be demolished and reconstructed into 3.0m wide shared path, along with new 2.5m to 3.0m wide shared paths constructed on the northern side of Milne Bay Road, and various sections of Sulphide Street and Alma Street.
