Update: Gayndah Customer Service and Library Building
Council is pleased to share an update on the progress being made to return the damaged Customer Service and Library building in Gayndah to operational use.
An independent structural engineer attended the site on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, to assess the full extent of the damage and the implications of the vehicle collision on the structural integrity of the building.
The initial advice from the structural engineer is that the building can be repaired rather than demolished in full and replaced. The front section of the building facing Capper Street will, however, need substantial structural repairs to make it safe for use as a workspace and public facility.
The project will now progress through the following stages:
Council expects to receive preliminary cost estimates from the engineer by the end of January.
Further discussions will then be held with Council’s insurer to progress our claim.
Council will then need to procure a suitably qualified and experienced builder to undertake the repairs. Ideally, we hope that builders located in the North Burnett region will consider tendering for this work when we undertake the procurement process.
Due to the extent of the repairs required and the difficulties that may be encountered in sourcing some of the required materials, the engineer has advised the works could take up to six months to complete once construction commences.
While Council wants this work progressed quickly, allowing for the stages that need to be completed before a builder is appointed and construction commences, it is likely that the building may not be back in operation until at least September 2026 – or possibly later.
Council wants to express its thanks to the community and our staff for their patience as these matters are worked through. In the interim, customer and library services will continue to operate from the Gayndah Administration Building during this period, so there is no disruption to the services the community receives from Council from this location.
Further updates will be provided to the community as this project progresses.
