2025.156. SSRP Stage 2 Masterplan Review.
Council seeks to engage a suitably qualified Consultant to conduct a review and update of the Summit Sport and Recreation Park Masterplan.
Located at 304 Springs Road, Mount Barker is the Summit Sport and Recreation Park (SSRP). The SSRP is a multi-purpose regional sports facility featuring a grass oval for AFL and cricket, along with two synthetic soccer (football) pitches.
Commissioned in response to Mount Barker’s rapid growth and rising demand for contemporary recreation infrastructure, the SSRP was developed on council owned land acquired as part of a long term strategy to support population growth and community needs.
Since its opening, the SSRP has become a key facility, not only for local clubs and community use but has also hosted major events, including high profile fixtures under national competitions, demonstrating its capacity and strategic value as a regional sporting hub.
Given evolving community expectations, changing demographics, and broader precinct level developments (including adjacent recreational and aquatic facilities), the objective of this consultancy is to review and refresh the SSRP’s original concept. The updated concept should ensure the SSRP remains fit-for-purpose, sustainable and aligned with long term strategic, financial and community outcomes.
The Consultant is to undertake a strategic concept update for the SSRP to guide the optimisation and future development of the site. The scope is to focus on maximising the use and performance of the existing facility while establishing a clear, staged and costed long term development framework that integrates with the broader Summit Precinct.
The consultancy is to be completed by June 2026.
