25/26-31 - City Oval Sports Surface Renewal
The City Oval was reconstructed over the 2018 summer and was designed as a venue with sand based oval. This included subsurface drainage, gravel drainage layer, sand, irrigation system and warm season turf.
Over the last 7 years it has performed very well but unfortunately there is now a layer of thatch of 80mm above the sand. It’s recommend that after 7 years that we remove the thatch layer to appropriate depth and replace in new turf.
This thatch layer causes the ground to chop up after heavy rain and during match play and heavy use of the venue., therefore to return the profile to its specified drainage and quality capacity it is advisable that the thatch layer should be removed and the turf surface re-established.
