Artists wanted for South Beach mural project
The City of Fremantle is inviting mural artists to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a new large-scale artwork at South Beach.
The South Beach Mural Project will transform the southern wall of the South Beach Café into a vibrant hand-painted mural that celebrates connection, community, and cultural history.
Shortlisted artists will each receive a $1000 concept design fee, with the commissioned artist awarded $12,000 (ex GST) to deliver the final mural.
Public art plays a vital role in shaping our city, enriching shared spaces and strengthening our sense of place, identity, and community connection.
The South Beach mural will celebrate and enhance one of Fremantle’s most cherished public spaces.
South Beach is more than a beautiful coastal destination, it’s a vibrant hub where people come together to swim, play, relax, share stories, and build community.
This project is an opportunity to visually honour the unique spirit of South Beach, its cultural richness, and its enduring role as a gathering place for both the Whadjuk Noongar people and the broader community of locals and visitors today.
The City encourages applications from early-career artists, artists living with disability, and artist teams who can provide mentorship opportunities, as part of our commitment to inclusivity and broadening access to public art.
South Beach is one of Fremantle’s most loved coastal destinations, known for its calm waters, picnic spaces, basketball courts, playground and popular café. The mural will enhance this much-loved community hub and add to the City’s growing collection of public art.
